HELLY HANSEN AND RNLI REACHES SIGNIFICANT MILESTONE IN PARTNERSHIP

Yesterday marked an important milestone in our strategic partnership with the RNLI as we reach the final stages of a ten month, nationwide roll out, by delivering all-weather lifeboat crew kit to volunteers from Salcombe Lifeboat Station in Devon.

Since September 2018, we have worked in close alignment with the RNLI, ensuring safe delivery of the new kit to over 128 all-weather lifeboat stations. Mark Dowie, the RNLI’s Chief Executive and former Lifeboat Operations Manager at Salcombe, was in attendance for the landmark event.

Mark said: “It’s great to see this fantastic new kit arrive at Salcombe as the national roll-out reaches its conclusion. Our volunteer crews across the UK and Ireland have been wearing it in all conditions when they’ve been out saving lives at sea, so we know it has been designed to withstand the challenges our crew face on a daily basis.”

Chris Winzar, Coxswain at Salcombe Lifeboat Station echoed Mark’s thoughts: “The new gear is absolutely fantastic! Even in the harshest conditions, we know this kit will help to keep us warm, dry and safe when we’re at sea.”

The arrival of the all-weather lifeboat crew kit to over 128 stations demonstrates our ongoing commitment to the strategic partnership with the RNLI. With centuries of experience between us, accompanied by core values, our collaborative efforts have proved absolutely invaluable when designing the new kit. The RNLI’s volunteer crews across the UK and Ireland are saving lives 365 days a year in all kinds of conditions, and its vital for them to be provided with professional-grade gear that’s waterproof, breathable, lighter and designed for greater freedom of movement, for better endurance levels and comfort.

Piers Barnes, General Manager, Helly Hansen and Musto said; “The teams across both organisations have worked tirelessly to achieve this momentous milestone in our partnership. We are immensely proud of the collaborative work that has gone into the joint testing, development and delivery of the professional grade gear. We are also honoured to have received the RNLI’s Direct Supplier of the Year Award, which recognises the outstanding product, service and collaboration between Helly Hansen and the RNLI. We thank those involved across both organisations for being fully engaged in the partnership and we look forward to continuing this journey for many years to come, not only in supplying this life saving kit, but by supporting the RNLI with their water safety messaging and fulfilling our joint aim of reducing drownings.”Designed to allow greater freedom of movement and better breathability, the new lifeboat kit provides better endurance levels and comfort for RNLI crew members. It is considerably more waterproof, breathable and lighter than the kit it is replacing and using the technical layering system developed by Helly Hansen, it will ensure crew members are kept warm and dry when they’re out saving lives, in all conditions.

As part of the strategic partnership with the RNLI, Helly Hansen has committed to supporting the RNLI through a variety of life saving activities. These include delivering drowning prevention messages, generating income, supporting fundraising and safety campaigns, product information and supplying the very best kit to the RNLI’s lifesavers.
