Jessica Sobolowski
Lives
Lake Tahoe, CA
Personal description
Jessica has had the unique opportunity to spend more time in AK than probably any girl in professional skiing or snowboarding. She spends a most of her winters at Points North Heli, ripping lines most girls (or boys for that matter) wouldn’t even drop in on. Because of this, she is likely the most experienced woman in the world in skiing big AK peaks. When she isn’t spending her time shredding scary technical lines she’s hanging out with her 2 Akitas and watching re-runs of Threes Company.
Q&A
What does your hair smell like?
Shampoo
What do you consider your greatest accomplishment?
It's hard to name just one thing but I would have to say making what I am most passionate about, skiing, become my job. I am also pretty fired up about some of the peaks I have skied in Alaska (Sphinx and Pontoon) competing in a few triathlons, and running the best heli ski operation ever, Points North.
Do you like your feet?
I love my feet but I am probably the only one. I got severe frostbite on my feet ski racing in Vermont so I now loose my toenails at least 4 times a year. My big toes never look normal.
Where is your happy place?
My happy place is being in the mountains, whether it be on my bike, feet or skis.
What do you take serious?
I take skiing in the big mountains serious. Sluff, avalanches, etc are all things I think about on a daily basis.
Where do you want to be in 20 years?
In Alaska with a float plane out front, enjoying life with my husband and watching our kids grow.
What is your worst fear?
My mind going crazy!!!! Honestly, I try not to have a worst fear as I do believe when you think about something long enough; it manifests and becomes your worst enemy!
What do you consider a challenge?
Finding the fine line between pushing yourself and listening to your inner gut tell you not to do something. I have been hurt quit a bit and it's really hard coming back from an injury and having that fear go out your head. You always think, "is it worth it to get hurt again"? But it's what I do so I am always trying to get a fix of adrenaline everyday so when ski season comes, I am ready.
Who has inspired you the most in life?
Kevin Quinn.
If you had 100million dollars but could not spend a dime on yourself, what would you do with it?
I would set up a program for kids and sports to give every child in the world an opportunity to pick and play a sport. I feel that sports are the outlet to our happiness and this world would be a much happier place if everyone took some time to the get their endorphins going!
