Bert Schandevyl

You know when you are doing something fun and you know the end is near, you get that feeling that you just wish it didn't have to end? Well we have a bit of that going on here on the mighty Team Sanya. The last week being in the race has been a lot of fun, some sched reports we win, some we lose, but it has seen us go from the top of the leader board to the bottom and all the places in-between. All I hoped for when kicking this campaign off was that we could be " ...

What a weekend it turned out to be for our Helly Hansen riders! They left Röldal with a 2nd and 4th place. We were up in Röldal to support and shout for our athletes Aurelien Ducroz and Jackie Paaso during the 4th stop of the Freeride World Tour. Both had a mission to get on the podium to still be in contention for the overall win when the season is over.We tagged along with Jackie on the way from Oslo to Röldal. The drive is normally a 4.5h scenic ride but this weekend started with a storm and snowfall so it ...

The heavy offshore smock tops have been out

Sailing, China

Both numbers 8 and 9 are lucky in Chinese culture, so whenever those numbers come up, all of us onboard tend to get this feeling that those are our days. While 8 is the number of good fortune and wealth, 9 is the number reserved for royalty. Today is day 8 of this leg and after a long and busy night, so far we are happy with what day 8 has brought our team. We are hanging with the fleet and on the last schedule gained some miles on all the boats to leeward of us. Groupama and Puma continue ...

Photos, Sun and Powder in Montafon, Austria with Jackie Paaso

Skiing, United States
Ready to drop in Great day in the office View of Shruns Austria below Great ending of a great day Typical Austrian Cuisine

The past week I traveled to Montafon, Austria for a photo shoot with photographer Martin Soderqvist and fellow athletes Reine Barkered and Martin Webrant. It was my first time in the Montafon region of Austria and it was a great time. On arrival we received two amazing days for shooting. Even though it had been some time since the area has received some new snow we still managed to find great untracked areas! The first day the Martin's and I went out to get some work done while Reine prepared for a contest. Upwind in the North East Monsoons

Sailing, China
Roman_111020_6482_LR

Pretty bumpy out here on the mighty Sanya LAN, just for a change we are going upwind!! The thought went through my head today if in fact the race organizers have looked seriously at sailing this course in the future the other way around the World!! Yes East about, as it's not like it's not supposed to be upwind here, it is. Basically we are still going upwind in the North East Monsoons, the same "trade wind" since we left the Maldives. Prior to the Maldives it had been upwind from Cape Town and then when we get to the ...

Back into life onboard

Sailing, China
vor120220_soriano_11349

Leg four Sanya to Auckland – Day One Well based on the sea state out here there is no doubt in my mind that the race organizers did the right thing holding us on the dock for 12 hours. Huge waves that if they had been accompanied by 40 knots of wind would have for sure put the fleet at risk, let alone the people. Remembering the shreak of pain when we broke poor Andy Meikeljohn's ankle on the first night out of Alicante when dropping off a big wave during a sail change Is still vivid in my memory, ...

We have just received a report back from Japan and it is deep! Helly Hansen ambassador Miles Clark is on a deep snow mission across the ocean and is finding what we all want right now, bottomless powder. Check out Miles' account of his trip in Hakuba, Japan so far: Japan...the land of heated toilet seats & frozen snow face-shots. One pair of cheeks is perpetually feeling warm and welcome while the other pair gets that frigid, wind-scoured imprint. This simple formula allows for the perfect balance of Japanese cheek serenity.Ok, we all know (via the latest ski movies) that ...
