Through an enormous efforts, creativity and hard work, the team is back on the starting line for leg 2 of the Volvo Ocean Race. After severe damages to the forward part of the hull only two days into leg one, the boat was put on a Maersk liner vessel and express shipped to Cape Town. In the meantime a team of highly skilled boat builders were flown in to Cape Town where they commenced building an exact copy of the damaged section of Sanyalan. As soon as the boat arrived on 29th November, the damaged section was cut out, and the new piece was accurately fitted into the hull. After long hours of sanding, waxing, painting, and wet sanding the hull will get a perfect finish, and be back on the water just in time for the next leg of the race. Helly Hansen is proud to be associated with the kind of passionate and dedicated professionals that can take on and overcome these kinds of obstacles with such focus and determination.
