Sailing, Norway
Ericsson2-Barcelona-to-Lanzarote-1237

Leg 1 of the Volvo Ocean Race could hardly have gone any better for Ericsson Racing Team. Ericsson 4 won Leg 1 and took the lead in the overall standings. The International crew also achieved a new speed record for mono-hulls, all while being a man down; sailing 602 nautical miles in 24 hours!!. Ericsson 3 placed third a day behind their leading teammates, a resilient finish for a crew that was 180 nautical miles behind at one point. The two crews are shoreside in Cape Town, South Africa, until Nov. 15, when Leg 2 to Cochin, India, is scheduled to begin. During this time the boats will be given a thorough inspection in preparation for the second leg. A product team from Helly Hansen have done a detailed review with all 22 sailors to make sure the sailing gear is working 100%.
