Sodebo crossed the equator Sunday at 10:20 am, after 49 days, 22 hours, 12 minutes and 32 seconds at sea and 1 day, 19 hours and 54 minutes behind Francis Joyon. Since departure from Ushant 29. January, the trimaran has sailed 23,777 nautical miles (average of 19.84 knots).
Since the morning North-Easternly wind has been increasing and Thomas Coville has seen the speed picking up: 12, 15, 17 knots. The clock runs and Thomas must return to the starting point in France before March 28, i.e. in 7 and a half days – that is possible with an average speed above 18 knots. During his previous attempt two years ago, Thomas sailed the same distance in 9 days and 15 hours. This time the he needs to make it in two days less.
